II. The Relational Implications (7).

Notice that there is a relational essence to this covenant. Abraham’s offspring will be God’s people and God would be their God. This is a relational union with the Supreme Deity that God Himself is establishing on their behalf. There is nothing greater than this expressed in the covenant. God as the giver of Himself is far reaching.

From an ethnic perspective this was seen in the OT as an epic failure on Israel's part. You have to know your OT to understand how God held Himself out to them as their God but Israel in the end rejected Him.
